LIVERPOOL, England -- Liverpool have been given a two-year academy transfer ban -- the second half of which is suspended -- and a £100,000 fine by the Premier League for the "tapping up" of a Stoke City youngster.
An investigation by the league found the Merseyside club gave forbidden inducements to the youngster and spoke to his family before they should have.
Liverpool paid for the boy and his family to attend a game at Anfield and offered to pay his private school fees, which was a breach of the rules.
