Liverpool have launched an investigation into the spitting incident that marred Sunday’s draw with Manchester City and will work with Merseyside Police to find the person responsible.
City were furious after a member of Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff was spat at during the second half and lodged a complaint immediately after the game. Officials from the Premier League champions had video footage of the incident, which they have handed over to the authorities.
Liverpool are furious about the unseemly episode and will be prepared to ban whoever is found guilty from their stadium for life.
