Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy reveals why Manchester United should have chosen Gareth Southgate rather than Erik ten Hag as the club's next manager

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has revealed that he would have chosen Gareth Southgate over Erik ten Hag for the Manchester United managerial position.

Ten Hag left his post as Ajax manager after leading them to a third-successive Eredivisie title in May and has already got to work at Old Trafford ahead of next season's campaign.

The Dutchman has a huge job on his hands to turn around United's fortunes but Murphy believes it should have been the England Manager tasked with the job of steering the Red Devils back into the race for top honours
