Former Liverpool goalkeeper Tommy Lawrence dies at 77... three years after BBC unwittingly interviewed him in street asking if he remembered Merseyside derby from 1967 (and he politely told them he played in it!)

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Tommy Lawrence has died at the age of 77, three years after he was catapulted into the nation's hearts in an accidental TV interview.

The ex-Anfield favourite retired in 1974, but was back on television screens in 2015 when a chance meeting with the BBC on the streets of Liverpool went viral.

An unwitting reporter had asked Lawrence if he remembered the 1967 Merseyside derby match against Everton, to which he had replied: 'I do, I played in it.'
