Former England and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is set to become a member of Royal Birkdale's neighbouring golf club Hillside at the second attempt.
Gerrard had previously withdrawn his membership application after he was told it would be turned down because of opposition on the committee following an incident in a Southport nightclub in 2008 when the Liverpool academy coach was involved in a brawl but later cleared of affray.
Hillside members Kenny Dalglish and Alan Hansen, who had proposed Gerrard for membership, appealed to the club to think again.
They pointed out how ludicrous it would look that Gerrard could be chosen as a highly-respected captain of his country but not be considered suitable for membership at Hillside.
