Former Liverpool and West Ham defender Rigobert Song is in a critical condition after suffering a stroke.

The 40-year-old was rushed to hospital in Yaounde in his homeland of Cameroon on Sunday.

Song was understood to be at home in the Odza neighbourhood in Yaounde when he suffered a cerebral aneurysm.

Jamie Carragher and Robbie Fowler are among former teammates to have expressed their concern for Song.

The former Cameroon international played for a host of clubs across Europe before hanging up his boots in 2010.

He spent three years of his playing career in England, making 35 appearances for Liverpool and 28 appearances for West Ham.
