Steven Gerrard is set to join the likes of Bob Paisley, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Ken Dodd by being awarded the Freedom of the City of Liverpool.
The Reds legend has been put forward for the city's highest civic honour in recognition of his contribution to football and his charity work in helping disadvantaged children across the United Kingdom.
The 36-year-old, who made 710 appearances during a 19-year stint at Anfield, has been nominated by Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson.
The proposal is expected to be backed at a city council meeting on Wednesday, January 18.
