Everton's 17-year-old defender Jarrad Branthwaite, who was bought from Carlisle for £750,000 in January, could make the squad for Merseyside derby against Liverpool after impressing Carlo Ancelotti in training game

Everton's teenage defender Jarrad Branthwaite could be thrust into the first team squad for this weekend's Merseyside derby.

The 17-year-old only joined Everton from Carlisle United in January for a £750,000 fee and was expected to develop in the club's U23 side.

However, his performances in training plus defensive injuries for Everton have pushed Branthwaite into contention for a place on the bench against Premier League champions elect Liverpool on Sunday.
