Eddie Howe has called on Newcastle United’s players and supporters to create a ‘magical European night’ against Milan - but the rabbit he may have to pull from a hat is Loris Karius.
In the club’s latest injury twist - knees and ankles have been going for months now - goalkeeper Martin Dubravka missed training on Tuesday and Howe says it is ‘unclear’ whether he will play this evening, in a match the Magpies must win if they are to remain in the Champions League.
That would mean a shock promotion for third-choice stopper Karius, who last played in this competition when two of his errors led to goals as Liverpool were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid in the 2018 final.
