On the eve of the 2013 Champions League final at Wembley Stadium, at what was probably the peak of Jurgen Klopp's time at Borussia Dortmund and maybe his career so far, the German pointedly reflected on the club's journey from near bankruptcy in 2004 to this showdown showpiece match with super-power Bayern Munich.
"We are not a favourite, but people have climbed Mount Everest," Klopp began, referencing the huge differences in resources between the two clubs. "The stadium could have been turned into a monument [when Dortmund almost went bust in 2004], but thanks to a few decisions from some clever people, it has risen from the ashes.
