To those familiar with the inner workings at Liverpool it was no surprise to see Danny Ings utterly swamped by teammates after scoring at The Hawthorns.
Ings is one of Liverpool’s most popular players and throughout the tumultuous, character-testing periods of serious injury his presence continued to enhance Melwood.
He never complained after those necessary Under-23s games at places like Prenton Park, where he got kicked by kids on quagmire pitches.
So the release of deep emotion from Ings after he drove the ball past Ben Foster was shared by those wearing the same shirt.
