Dani Alves has told FourFourTwo he "pretty much had an agreement with Liverpool" before a move to the club fell through in 2006.
Manager Rafael Benitez had identified Alves, then at Sevilla, as a top transfer target.
Rick Parry, Liverpool's CEO at the time, recently said a deal for Alves fell through because of financial reasons, with the full-back joining Barcelona in 2008.
"I pretty much had an agreement with Liverpool," Alves said. "But, for whatever reason, it didn't happen at the last moment and I really don't know why as I wasn't the one conducting the negotiations.
