A near-flawless display saw the Reds simply overrun Forest with a collective ingenuity of thought and footwork that no defence could have handled.
Ray Houghton kicked off the scoring with a helping hand from John Barnes, and John Aldridge (two), Gary Gillespie and Peter Beardsley suitably embellished a scoreline that would have been even greater were it not for visiting goalkeeper Steve Sutton and the woodwork.
