After introducing himself to the world it was time to introduce himself to the press. Christo Lamprecht, the South African giant who had just leapt to the top of The Open leaderboard, approached the mixed zone where scores of journalists awaited the first major story of the major.
‘Duck’ - or words of a similar effect - came the call from a quick-thinking R&A official and Lamprecht, at 6ft 8, duly obliged. In doing so he avoided the fate suffered by compatriot, playing partner and mentor Louis Oosthuizen who had seconds earlier cracked his head on the low ceiling at the entrance.
