Thiago Silva’s groin issue is leaving him in a race to be fit for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final showdown with Liverpool – potentially his last chance at correcting his Wembley Stadium winless streak.
The 39-year-old has featured in three finals at the national stadium for Chelsea, ultimately losing them all – in the FA Cup to Leicester in 2021 and then in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup to Liverpool, both in 2022 and settled by penalty shootouts.
Silva missed the Premier League clash with Manchester City on Saturday after picking up his groin problem in the previous match against Crystal Palace, described as ‘minor’ by Mauricio Pochettino last week.
