Brian Harman will celebrate his breakthrough major success in a uniquely fitting way — by mowing his 25-acre farm in Georgia in his new orange tractor.
The 36-year-old with a passion for hunting saw off all comers at Royal Liverpool, dominating the 151st Open Championship to win by six shots with a final total of 13-under.
He played beautifully in horrendous conditions and never once looked like being caught by Tom Kim, Jason Day, Jon Rahm or Sepp Straka. Rory McIlroy briefly looked promising but Harman was always in control.
McIlroy is adamant success will not change Harman and, to prove the point, the American said: ‘I had a nice week a couple of weeks ago and I bought a new tractor for my hunting place, so I’ll get home and I’ll be on it mowing grass in the next few weeks.
