Toni Kroos and Aurelien Tchouameni have not been named in Real Madrid's Champions League squad to face Liverpool on Tuesday, but star forward Karim Benzema is set to return after his absence at the weekend.
The Champions League winners will travel to Anfield to face last year's finallists with a depleted midfield, without two of Carlo Ancelotti's first-choice stars in the engine room.
Experienced veteran Luka Modric headlines the midfield alongside Ernesto Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Mario Martin, Sergio Arribas and Dani Ceballos.
Valverde, who has often operated further forward for Ancelotti this season, scoring in Real Madrid's 2-0 away win against Osasuna at the weekend, could be deployed in a deeper role against Jurgen Klopp's side in midweek.
