Bill Shankly: 'Godfather' of Liverpool celebrated in mural

A mural celebrating the legendary Liverpool manager Bill Shankly has been unveiled near the club's home ground.

The mural was painted on Hotel Tia on Anfield Road by street artist Paul Curtis, who based it on a photo chosen by the Scot's granddaughter Karen Gill.

Ms Gill said the work was "amazing", adding that it would be "nice now for me to be able to see him every day".

Former Reds defender Phil Thompson, who played under Shankly, said the mural would have "enthralled" his old boss.

Shankly, who died in 1981, took charge of the Reds in 1959, at a time when the club had been languishing in the Second Division for five seasons.
