A Liverpool man who threw a glass bottle at the Manchester United team bus has been given a three-year football banning order.

Lewis Cleary, who was convicted of criminal damage at Sefton Magistrates' Court, threw the bottle as the coach was being driven to Anfield on 17 December, Merseyside Police said.

He caused damage to a side window.

Cleary, 23, also received a 150 hour-community order and was told to pay £500 in compensation and costs.

Police said the coach was damaged as it was being driven along Anfield Road ahead of a Premier League game between Liverpool and Manchester United, which finished goalless.
