Bereaved families of Hillsborough victims have reacted with dismay to a report into the Champions League final chaos in Paris last month which suggested the heavy-handed policing was influenced by a briefing confusing the 1989 disaster with hooliganism.
A report by a delegate of the French sports ministry delivered to the French prime minister, Elisabeth Borne, brings up Hillsborough in a segment on police intelligence.
‘Reference to the Hillsborough tragedy in 1989 — 97 deaths — for which the responsibility of the (police) was pointed out, led however to the drawing up of a firm policing arrangement.
