Rio Ferdinand criticised Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian for his error leading to Atletico Madrid's first goal as the Premier League side crashed out of the Champions League last-16 stage.
Jurgen Klopp's side believed they were heading through as they led 2-1 on aggregate during the first-half of extra-time thanks to goals from Georginio Wijanldum and Roberto Firmino - but two Marcos Llorente strikes and a late Alvaro Morata clincher put the La Liga side through to the quarter-finals.
Adrian's lazy kick forward under no pressure led to Llorente's first strike, which gave the visitors a crucial away goal
Speaking to BT Sport, Ferdinand said: 'It’s gone back to what we spoke about with Liverpool maybe 18 months ago, two years… if you’ve not got a top class goalkeeper, you get punished at the highest level.
