Adam Lallana deals Liverpool injury blow as star could miss four weeks after injuring thigh on England duty

Liverpool's preparations for the Merseyside derby have suffered a huge blow after Adam Lallana was ruled out of the critically important game.

Lallana, a contender for Liverpool's player of the year, damaged his thigh in the latter stages of England's 2-0 win over Lithuania but he saw out the full 90 minutes.

The injury became progressively worse in the subsequent 24 hours, so much so that there is even the possibility that the 28-year-old might be sidelined for another four weeks.

He has undergone treatment at Liverpool's Melwood training base but there is no hope of him being involved in the clash against Everton on Saturday or the subsequent games at home to Bournemouth (April 5) and away to Stoke (April 8).
