Aberdeen want an up front payment of £5million before agreeing to sell Calvin Ramsay to Liverpool.
The Anfield giants hoped to land the coveted Dons right-back for a fee of around £4m.
With talks reaching an advanced stage, however, Aberdeen are holding out for a total package worth £8.5m with add-ons.
And key to getting a deal over the line is the Champions League finalists agreeing to stump up another £1m as an up front payment.
Bologna are also keen on Ramsay and could make an offer if they sell Scotland defender Aaron Hickey for big money, with Brentford at the front of the queue for the former Hearts player.
