Ayestaran spent three years at Anfield as Rafael Benitez’s right-hand man, helping to mastermind an unforgettable Champions League victory in 2005 and a thrilling FA Cup success a year later.
Describing his feelings upon returning in ‘Back at Melwood… with Pako Ayestaran’, which premieres on LFCTV at 5.45pm BST this evening, he said: “I have quite a strange feeling - a mixture of happiness and sadness.
“Probably, it was one of the best times of my life, the time I spent here. But it's always great to be here and I come and visit Liverpool quite often.
