Newcastle will reportedly launch fresh attempts to sign James Maddison in the summer despite Manchester City holding a strong interest in the Leicester midfielder.
The Magpies lodged two bids, worth £35million and £40million, for the England star last summer but their offers did not come close to matching Leicester's valuation of around £60million.
And although the Saudi-backed club have been happy to spend, Eddie Howe's side will face stiff competition from Man City - as revealed by Sportsmail last week.
The champions, who have been charged by the Premier League over alleged financial rule breaches, will have to be active ahead of next season, with the futures of Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva up in the air.
