Leicester City play £46million worth of talent including Kelechi Iheanacho and Leonardo Ulloa in their 'development squad' for Checkatrade Trophy win over Scunthorpe United

The much maligned Checkatrade Trophy threw up another farcical story on Tuesday as Leicester City played £46million worth of signings in their 'development squad'.

Leicester's under-23s are one of several Premier League reserve sides invited to play in the competition - traditionally reserved for League One and Two level sides only - ostensibly to give their young players experience against senior players.

However Foxes boss Steve Beaglehole had several first team players available, and picked them over his regular charges in a 2-1 win away to Scunthorpe United.
