The much maligned Checkatrade Trophy threw up another farcical story on Tuesday as Leicester City played £46million worth of signings in their 'development squad'.
Leicester's under-23s are one of several Premier League reserve sides invited to play in the competition - traditionally reserved for League One and Two level sides only - ostensibly to give their young players experience against senior players.
However Foxes boss Steve Beaglehole had several first team players available, and picked them over his regular charges in a 2-1 win away to Scunthorpe United.

Most notable among the names was Kelechi Iheanacho, who cost £25million when signed from Manchester City in the summer.
