Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy for non-league talent has enjoyed instant success with one of the players offered his first professional contract.
Striker Danny Newton has signed for Stevenage Borough after impressing scouts during the week-long course held at Manchester City’s Etihad Campus.
Newton will make the jump from National League North to League Two at the age of 26, having been out of contract after scoring 34 goals for Tamworth last season.
Stevenage manager Darren Sarll moved for Newton, who has earned the nickname ‘Wasp’ for his high-energy running, as he shapes his squad that finished 10th in the campaign just gone.
