Sitting in the cold at the King Power was England manager Gareth Southgate. While everybody else looked on with a mild sense of astonishment at yet another Liverpool implosion, he will not have failed to notice another afternoon of note by Jamie Vardy.
Nominally Southgate will have been here to watch the likes of young Leicester duo James Maddison and Harvey Barnes. Both scored goals so will not have done their case ahead of the March internationals any harm at all.
Liverpool's Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold – whose form has been up and down of late – will also have been on Southgate's radar.
