Football hooliganism is now not the ‘English Disease’ but the ‘European Ailment’… safe standing should never come to pass

Football hooliganism used to be called the English Disease, but since Marseille became re-infected during Euro 2016 there has been more trouble in France with lovely Lyon at the centre of riots, and the Low Countries have joined the low-life soccer nations.

Germany has never been immune from this plague and this week Bayern Munich fans disgruntled at Champion League defeat by Real Madrid went to war with Spanish police in the Bernabeu.

There are reports also of the Russian gangs who did their bit for anarchy in France last summer, rehearsing in their forests for all-out war with visiting louts at next summer’s World Cup Finals, with the English their preferred target.
