Ex-Leicester City full back Danny Simpson is linking up with his former manager Nigel Pearson at Bristol City.
The 34-year-old free agent had been training with Sheffield Wednesday but is expected to sign a short-term deal with Pearson's promotion-chasing side after the international break.
City have filled their 25-man squad but hope to be given clearance for Simpson to replace one of their long-term injured players.

The EFL rules state that only 'in other truly exceptional circumstances' will they ratify a squad update outside the window.
However, this is expected to be a non-issue given the pandemic and how hard the Robins have been hit by injuries, with the squad having up to 20 so far this campaign.
