Barnsley are leading the race to sign Matty James on loan from Leicester until the end of the season.
A number of Championship clubs have been in touch with Leicester about James’s availability.
At present the midfielder is minded to move to Oakwell. Barnsley are expected to lose Conor Hourihane to Aston Villa.
Leicester are willing to allow James to leave temporarily so the 25-year-old can get regular games after recently returning from 18 months out.
