Tom Flores shouldn’t be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame because he’s a trail blazer, the NFL’s first Latino head coach.
Nor should Flores be inducted because he’s a class act something along the lines of former Warriors coach Al Attles as someone who is unassuming, treats others with respect and has never had a public moment where he appeared overly impressed with himself.
Flores, 81, should get the call Saturday in Atlanta because he was an exceptional head coach for one of the NFL’s iconic franchises following a career as a pretty good quarterback.
Whether that happens or not is up to a panel of 48 selectors, who will go into a marathon session Saturday to first whittle the 15 modern era candidates to 10 and then enshrine five new members with a yes or no vote.
