There’s a notion that Marquette King got the boot because he was not compatible with Raiders coach Jon Gruden.
It’s easy enough to connect the dots:
Free-spirited, penalty-prone punter who never met a social media medium he didn’t like vs. the no-nonsense, prodigal head coach eager to send a message that shenanigans won’t be tolerated..
It would also be a mistake not to recognize the biggest reason for the Raiders release of King last week was financial.
It makes for a much better story to portray Gruden Part II as “Get off my lawn” guy and assume the suddenly crotchety coach dumped one of the NFL’s top punters strictly because of his personality.
