The price tag for Khalil Mack could go up Saturday night should he add the Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year award to a burgeoning resume.
Mack isn’t necessarily a lock to join Lester Hayes (1980) as the only Raiders to have been so honored, but based on how voting went for the A.P. All-Pro team, he looks to be the favorite.
Going into the last year of his contract, and with general manager Reggie McKenzie on the record as hoping to get Mack and quarterback Derek Carr locked up sooner rather than later, a Defensive Player of the Year award would only serve to add more zeroes or years to the end of what could be an eventual deal averaging $20 million per season.
