It’s difficult, often unfair, for NFL teams to expect an immediate impact from rookies drafted outside the first round. Squads with depth of talent generally make widespread contributions difficult.
Last season, however, the Raiders needed help and got it. The Silver and Black eventually mined five functional starters out of eight picks – OLB Khalil Mack, QB Derek Carr, LG Gabe Jackson, DT Justin Ellis and CB TJ Carrie -- an impressive total that helped establish a young foundation. All of them are expected to start again this season, with Keith McGill factoring heavily into the scheme.
Expecting similar contributions this year might be tough.
