BRADENTON, Fla. — When Obi Melifonwu makes his regular season debut Sunday in Miami, the Raiders could use him in a couple different ways.
Melifonwu is listed as a safety but worked with the cornerbacks in Thursday’s individual drills during open practice. He could also be used as a blend of the two, covering tight ends since coaches think he’s more than capable of doing so.
The Raiders’ cornerback unit is banged up, to say the least. There are three players already ruled out of Oakland’s (3-5) Sunday night game against the Dolphins (4-3). All three, David Amerson, Demetrius McCray and Gareon Conley, are cornerbacks.
