The news on Menelik Watson, which hit Twitter just before the end of the Raiders’ 30-23 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, provides a blow to a team that had stayed pretty healthy throughout most of training camp.
Watson’s ruptured Achilles’ ends his season, the third time in three years in the NFL he’ll miss significant time. He sat out the final four weeks of last season with a foot/ankle injury and also missed the first seven games of his rookie season to injury.
Austin Howard is in line to take over as the starter at right tackle, but he wasn’t celebrating that news Sunday night.
