The Raiders commence training camp on Saturday and thus begins a wide open competition to find the team’s starting middle middle linebacker.
Oakland general manager Reggie McKenzie did not acquire any starting-caliber middle linebackers during the offseason, but did use the team’s fifth round pick to draft former Wake Forest inside linebacker Marquel Lee.
Players like Lee, Jelani Jenkins, Cory James and Ben Heeney (who is starting the season on the non-football injury list) will compete for that spot over the next few weeks, but the Raiders may likely be tasked with looking to the waiver wire and/or a trade to bring in a middle linebacker to remedy the issues that unit had last season.
