A lot has been made of the Raiders’ big-money free-agent acquisitions, but another area jumps out as far as the team’s improvement is depth: They finally have some.
Even at linebacker, considered the team’s soft spot on defense. After the first team gave up 45 yards to Packers running back Eddie Lacy on the first touchdown drive Thursday, Oakland allowed only 2.9 yards per carry the rest of the night.
“After we got done with the first series, we settled down and played some really good football,” linebackers coach Sal Sunseri said.
Backup inside linebackers Korey Toomer, Cory James and Neiron Ball have followed up strong training camps with good performances in the first two preseason games.
