The Al Davis torch is making the trip to Mexico City, and the son of the late Raiders owner found just the right person to light it before Monday night’s game.

Olympic champion and civil rights activist Tommie Smith, best known for wearing a black glove and raising his fist at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, will do the honors at Azteca Stadium. Smith is a longtime friend of the Raiders owner.

“It felt like (the salute) was the right time and the right moment and it fell in place,” Davis told ESPN.
