NAPA — Clive Walford’s offseason was derailed when he didn’t see a little hump in the road.
Walford, the Raiders’ second-year tight end, injured his knee in an offseason ATV accident seriously enough that it required surgery. It forced him to miss all of organized team activities and the team’s minicamp in June.
For a potential breakout player who also missed time last training camp, it was a disappointing situation to take away so much additional development time.
But Walford initially didn’t think it was that serious.
“Believe it or not, when the accident first happened, I didn’t realize how serious it was until I actually got to the hospital,” Walford said.
