Snap count: Edwards Jr. rotates in during season debut

OAKLAND – Mario Edwards Jr.’s season debut got overshadowed on Saturday afternoon. Everything, it seems, even a 33-25 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, pales in comparison to Derek Carr’s plight.

The Raiders quarterback broke his right fibula and is out indefinitely, putting the teams Super Bowl dreams in serious doubt. The Raiders must now rely on defense more than ever, meaning Edwards Jr. must become an impact player along the defensive front.

Saturday’s effort was the first step in becoming one. Edwards Jr. was activated off injured reserve on Friday and was a rotational player, primarily as an interior rusher on passing downs.
