If Aidan O’Connell wins the Las Vegas Raiders starting quarterback battle with Gardner Minshew in training camp and in the preseason games, he must improve in one key area that he struggled in as a rookie.
And if Minshew wins the job, he has do something the Raiders’ quarterbacks couldn’t do in 2023.
The Raiders’ 20-24 quarterback must connect with star wide receiver Davante Adams on the deep ball. A recent tweet by NFL analyst Warren Sharp showed that was a major problem last season. Check out the gory details:
Davante Adams was targeted 26 times on deep balls of 20+ yards last year
he had ZERO DROPS on 26 targets
but he caught only 4-of-26
that's because nearly 60% of his targets were inaccurate
the most of any receiver in 2023
or 2022
or 2021
or 2020
poor guy just doing cardio— Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball) July 12, 2024That’s brutal and unacceptable.
