The Oakland Raiders seemed to be in play when the Seattle Seahawks released Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman on Friday. With holes in the secondary, the Raiders are in need of some talent to put alongside Gareon Conley in the starting lineup at cornerback, but Sherman to the Raiders was not in the cards.
According to Peter King of Sports Illustrated, Sherman reached out to Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie, who let him know there would be not enough cap room to compete for his services. So instead of coming to the Raiders, Sherman went to the other Bay Area team, signing a three-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers.
