The Raiders are set to hire Brian Callahan as quarterbacks coach, SI’s Albert Breer reported Friday afternoon.
Callahan is the son of former Raiders head coach Bill Callahan, who replaced the fired Jon Gruden in Oakland 16 years ago. The Detroit Lions fired the younger Callahan on Monday as quarterbacks coach, and he lands on Gruden’s staff less than a week later.
It wasn’t clear whether Gruden would bring on a quarterbacks coach, given the involvement both he and offensive coordinator Greg Olson will have with the position. On Jan. 17, Olson said on a conference call he and Gruden were still discussing whether to hire a coach for the position.
