The Raiders are signing kicker Matt McCrane, NFL Network first reported, since Mike Nugent suffered a hip injury in Sunday’s 28-20 loss to the Dolphins.
McCrane is an undrafted rookie who spent preseason with the Arizona Cardinals and hit all four of his field goal attempts, including kicks from 53 and 54 yards. McCrane attended Kansas State from 2014-17, where he hit 57-of-66 field goals (86.4 percent) and 133-of-134 extra points (99.3 percent).
Nugent, who became Oakland’s starting kicker when rookie Eddy Piñeiro hit injured reserve with a groin injury during preseason, hit all six of his field goal attempts in the first three weeks, including a long of 52 yards in the fourth quarter last Sunday that stands as the Raiders’ only fourth-quarter points this season.
