Cut by the Oakland Raiders just yesterday, linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong has a new home and a short distance to travel to get there as he will be going from Alameda to Santa Clara after being claimed on waivers by the 49ers on Wednesday afternoon.
Armstrong was benched on defense by head coach Jack Del Rio in the Raiders loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, prompting him being placed on waivers on Tuesday after struggling this season despite being given an increased role going into 2015 by the team’s new coaching staff.
Placing Glenn Dorsey on the IR, the Niners had an open roster spot and opted to raid the waiver wire for Armstrong.
