ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Mark Davis was in awe.
Sitting in front of him, two titans of their respective games: his father, football’s Al Davis, and The Greatest, boxing’s Muhammad Ali.
The fog of time keeps the younger Davis from remembering which Roman numeral to place in front of the Super Bowl where this meeting happened, but it was before an NFL title game in the late 1970s -- or was in in the early 1980s? -- when Ali made the impromptu visit to the Davis suite to pay his respects.
