Raiders release LB Curtis Lofton

The Raiders announced the release of veteran middle linebacker Curtis Lofton Friday after one season.

Lofton signed a three-year deal worth a maximum of $18 million last season. With a 2016 cap number of $5.5 million, Lofton’s release will save the Raiders $2 million against the cap but count $3.5 million in dead money.

The eight-year veteran played in all 16 games for the Raiders, starting nine of them. He finished with a career-low 64 tackles, 45 unassisted, as his play was restricted to running downs and short-yardage because of issues in space covering running backs and tight ends.
