ALAMEDA — In a move that had been expected most of the offseason, the Raiders released veteran defensive tackle Dan Williams on Tuesday.
Williams, who will turn 30 in June, was due $4.5 million this season in the third of a four-year deal he signed in 2015. None of that money was guaranteed and so it will all be pocketed as salary cap savings.
The 6-foot-2, 330-pound Williams battled weight issues at the start of training camp last year that knocked him down to the second string and he followed with by far the least productive season of his seven-year NFL career.
